Lecture 1   words and expressions


Teaching aims: make the Ss to master the following words and expressions.

2. rise     raise


rise  vi. 不用被动语态。 上升。 上涨  起身  起床

III. Homework


 Ask the Ss to bear the words above in mind


After that , do a piece of paper to train the Ss’ ability of using the language.

Teaching Aims:


1.      Learn and master the words and expressions that appear in the lecture.


2.      Train the students ‘reading ability.


Teaching Important Points:


1.      Improve the students’ reading ability.


2.      Enable the students to understand the text better.


3.      How to get the students to master the useful expressions.


Teaching difficult points:


Master the following sentence structures:


1.      As well as reading the right audience with the right technique, advertisers must also place their ads in the right medium.


2.As well as worrying about the expense, advertisers must also consider which media are most appropriate for their product and which their target audience is most likely to see or hear.


Teaching methods


1, Discussion to help the students know sth about the ads.


2, Fast reading  to get the general idea of the text.


3, Questioning –and-answering individual work to make every student work in class.

Step I. Greetings and revision


Step II. Warming up


1, where do you see or hear ads ?


2, Can you think of anywhere else you see or hear ads?


3, Do you think ads affect your life in any way, eg, do you dress differently because of what you see in ads or buy things


you might not otherwise buy?


4, How many ads do you think you see or hear every day? Can you remember the names of any products that were being ads ?

Step III. Pre-reading


1, Look at each of the ads on the next two pages and discuss the questions with a partner.


1, What does the ads want u to do?


2, how does it try to persuade u to do this?


3, Which ads do you think are the most effective? Why?

  Write a short as using what have been mastered.

Ask the Ss to talk about how advertising works

Choose one of the things advertised in the listening but write a different ad for a different target . Some possible targets are listed below.


Then perform your ad to the class. Ask them to guess who your target is.

1, Review the useful expressions learnt in this unit by making sentences with them.


2, Train the Ss’  integrating skills by reading and summing up.

How to improve the students’ integrating skills---reading skill and summing skill.


Teaching methods: 


Fast-reading and reading to improve the students’ reading ability


Practice and pair work or group work to have every student master what they have learned.

StepI. Talk about all the ads you have seen and heard in your daily life during the last week and then in your groups answer  these questions.


1.        Did any of the ads contain lies or misleading information?


2.        Did any of the ads try to persuade you to do sth you consider wrong?


3.        Do you think any of the ads are unsuitable for children to see?


4.        What percentage of the ads do you think were unsuitable in some way?


StepII  Reading


Read the passage and answer the questions.


1.      In what four ways can consumers be protected from false, misleading or unethical advertising?


2.      Would you complain about any of the ads in this passage? Why?


3.      Why do some schools teach their students about advertising ?


4.      What is your opinion of this idea?


5.      Do you know if China has an organization to which citizens can complain if they see an ad they believe is wrong? If you don’t know, how can you find out?
